AMICI-TYPE SUBSTAGE OBLIQUE ILLUMINATOR
MAKER: BECK
c. 1862
DESCRIPTION:
This device is mounted on top of a ring which fits into the top ring of the substage. The prism can be moved back and forth in a dovetail slot and can be rotated by a small knurled knob. This non-achromatic accessory was intended to provide substage oblique illumination for relatively low power use. The Nachet type of illuminator was often used for higher powers, though it also has disadvantages including lack of achromatism.
