SWIFT'S BLANKLEY LIVEBOX:
This livebox is specifically designed to allow the use of the achromatic condenser and dark ground illumination. Swift's catalogs attributed it to Blankley, and rightly so. It was described in the English Mechanic and World of Science No. 305, of Jan 27 1871, page 437. It is stated in the article that it was made and sold by 'Mr James Swift of 48 University Street, Tottenham-court-road and costs but a trifle more than an ordinary live-box'. This livebox very much anticipated the much later 'Rouselet livebox' of similar, nearly identical construction.
