The Zeiss substage provided with this microscope has a condenser which can be flipped down and then rotated out of the optical axis, and easily rotated back into the optical axis and flipped up into the condenser holder which remains in place. The housing for the iris is on a separate fitting which can be swung out of the optical axis, and has a rack and pinion provision for moving the iris in or out of centration. This iris holder can be rotated to allow the off axis light through the iris to enter the fitting from any horizontal azimuth.
