Maker: Walter Bulloch
Year of Production: 1880s

This microscope is signed PATD.1879, W.H.BULLOCH, CHICAGO, ILL.
. It has two zig-zag shaped tailpieces that can rotate independently from each other or together. It has the older concentric but horizontally-controlled mechanical atage with worm screw movement of the right-left motion and rack and pinion movement of the forward and backward movement. The substage ring for a the condenser slides up or down its tailpiece, as does the gimbaled mirror. The serial number is on the bottom of the foot. When ordering, the buyer had the option of a plain clip stage, sliding object carrier
or mechanical stage as shown here. The microscope has rack & pinion coarse focusing with straight teeth, and long lever fine focus through the limb. It features the Bulloch hallmark saddle stage mounting where in rotation of the tailpieces does not affect the stage.
This microscope is identical in construction to number 121. It has a German objective however.
Please see that page for another, (but earlier), example with American Wales objectives.
