DESCRIPTION:
This is an unusual and uncommon monocular compound microscope likely from the 4th quarter of the 19th century. It is about 11 inches high in working position when a slide is in focus. It has rack and pinion coarse focusing, but no provision for fine focusing. It is built on a square base which supports 4 curved uprights which attach to the bottom of the stage via an L-shaped bar on the right and left side, each side connecting the two uprights on the respective side. The L-pieces are screwed to the bottom of the stage.
Each of the uprights is screwed to the foot from underneath.
A brass knob holds the arm in place and can be loosened to allow the arm to swivel in an arc horizontally. The single sided mirror can be rotated between two supports from the foot with either of the two knobs one on either side.
CONDITION:
It is in fine mechanical, optical and cosmetic condition with minimal losses to the original lacquer.
HISTORY OF THIS MICROSCOPE:
This microscope is one of many variations of French microscopes from the late 19th century. This form is particularly uncommon.
