DESCRIPTION:

This is a small French microscope with a round lead-filled foot. From the foot a curving limb with a rectangular profile supports the inclination joint. There is rack and pinion coarse focusing but no provision for fine focusing. It has a single buttom
objective as is typical in French microscopes of that era. The microscope stands about 6 1/2 inches high in its inclined focused position.
CONDITION:
The microscope has only 1 of its original two stage clips. The focusing knob has been replaced with one made of a copper-like alloy which is likely of different design than the original. The knob is held on the pinion axle by an epoxy-like material. There are scattered lacquer losses, especially on the foot. Nevertheless, it works well and displays well also.
HISTORY OF THIS MICROSCOPE:
This is one of many designs of small student microscopes of French origin produced in the last quarter of the 19th century which continued into the early years of 20th Century.
