THE MICROCHARACTER SET UP FOR USE ON A PERIOD MICROSCOPE:
This shows how a period microscope would be setup to use the Microcharacter. Early on, a Ramsden eyepiece micrometer as well as an electric vertical illuminator were included with the Microcharacter and one needed only to supply the microscope with a high power oil immersion objective. The microscope shown here is a Spencer microscope model number 64, similar to that pictured in the original patent. Here it is shown equipped with a Spencer Ramdsden Eyepiece micrometer, a Spencer high power oil immersion objective, and a Watson-Conrady vertical illuminator, an apparatus very similar to the one supplied by Spencer, though Watson included a lacquered brass counterweight.
