THE SWIFT WOLLASTON CAMERA LUCIDA('without frames')
As can be seen in the 6th edition of their catalog, Swift offered a number of different camera lucidas for the microscope, ranging from a Wollaston type 'with frames' to a very simple model. As can be seen in the illustration from the c. 1874 catalog, this is the 'Wollaston Camera Lucida without Frames', the 2nd most expensive model. It features a prism which has an adjustible angle. The camera lucida replaces the eyepiece cap on the eyepiece. Scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the camera and microscope set up for drawing. In use for this purpose, the microscope would be in a horizonal position, the light source being directed straight through the condenser without a mirror, the user above the microscope looking down at the drawing paper and the camera lucida at the same time.
